Do I need an app to unlock it?

You use the KENRONE app to hold your credential, then the phone's NFC field powers the lock at the tap and you turn the knob to open. Any NFC-enabled iPhone or mainstream Android phone works.

Is a disc lock secure enough for outdoor storage?

The discus body shrouds a hardened alloy-steel shackle, so the common bolt-cutter attack on an exposed shackle has little to grip. The lock is also sealed to IP65 for rain, dust, and freeze.

What happens if my phone dies?

NFC draws very little from the phone, so even a nearly-dead phone can usually still authenticate the tap.

Can the operator revoke access remotely?

Yes. An operator on the KENRONE cloud platform suspends a unit's credential, so that phone can no longer open the lock.

How is this different from a DaVinci disc lock?

A DaVinci disc lock is a release-code mechanical lock that a tenant opens with a QR or text code, mainly for vacant-unit and overlock automation. How the Battery-Free NFC Disc Lock Works

There is no battery inside the lock. The phone's NFC field supplies the power at the moment of the tap, the same principle a contactless transit card uses. A unit can sit closed for a year and still open on the first tap.
