Does the NFC smart key safe need batteries or charging?

No. The key safe has no internal battery. It is powered entirely by NFC energy harvested from the authorized smartphone during the unlock — when there is no phone tapping it, the lock sits in a fully passive state. There are no AA or AAA cells to replace and no charging port to plug in.

How does smartphone NFC actually open the key safe?

When you hold an authorized phone against the NFC tap area, the phone transmits both a small amount of energy and an encrypted authorization token to the lock. The lock uses the energy to power up just long enough to verify the token against its authorized user list, then releases. The whole exchange takes less than a second.

Can multiple people be authorized to open the same key safe?

Yes. The owner adds authorized users through the NFC app — family members, guests, cleaners, agents, contractors, and so on. Each authorized phone unlocks independently, and each user is identified separately in the access log.

Does it work with both iPhone and Android?

Yes. The NFC app is available for both iOS and Android. Any reasonably current iPhone or NFC-equipped Android phone with the app installed and authorized can unlock the key safe.

Will I see who opened the key safe and when?

Yes. Every open event is recorded in the app with the user identity and timestamp. The log is useful for confirming a guest’s arrival, verifying a cleaner’s visit, or reviewing recent activity in case of a dispute.

Is the key safe weatherproof for outdoor wall mounting?

Yes. The housing is rated IP65 — dust-tight, and protected against water jets from any direction. It is designed for outdoor wall mounting on house walls, fences, gates, garages, and similar fixed locations. For long-term durability we still recommend mounting under an overhang or porch where practical.

Does it work at low temperatures?

Yes. The battery-free design avoids the cold-weather failure modes that affect battery-powered smart lockboxes, where AA or AAA cells lose capacity quickly in winter. The same NFC passive lock technology is already used across our wider lock line in low-temperature environments.

Is the NFC signal secure — can the unlock be cloned?

The authorization is based on encrypted tokens tied to each authorized phone, not a static code, so a casual NFC scan of the lock or another user’s phone cannot be replayed to open it. Combined with per-user logging, this gives a meaningfully higher security baseline than a shared combination code or a static PIN on a keypad lockbox.
