NFC Smart Key Lock Box –
Battery-Free, Keyless, App-Managed Key Safe

A wall-mountable NFC smart key safe (also known as a smart lockbox or smart key box) that opens with a single smartphone tap. No internal battery, no shared combination codes, no copied keys. Authorized users are managed through the NFC app, and every open event is recorded for full access transparency.

  • Smartphone NFC unlocking — no key safe battery to charge or replace

  • App-based authorization for multiple users, with time-bound access for guests, cleaners, and agents

  • Complete unlock records for every authorized user

  • IP65 weather-rated zinc alloy and ABS construction for outdoor wall mounting

NFC Battery-free Key Lock Box

Why combination and battery key safes keep letting hosts down.

Most key safes in use today fall into one of two camps — mechanical combination lockboxes or battery-powered keypad lockboxes. Both come with practical issues that show up daily for Airbnb hosts, property managers, and real estate agents.

The NFC smart key safe is built to remove all four issues in one product — no PIN to share, no battery to die, every open event logged, and a flush surface with no keypad to wear out.

01 / Shared

Codes get shared, and rarely change.

A combination PIN handed to one guest is just as easy to forward to the next person, and most hosts never reset it between bookings.

02 / Drained

Batteries die at the worst time.

Smart keypads typically run on AA or AAA cells that drain in months, leaving guests locked out and review scores at risk.

03 / Blind

No record of who opened the box.

Mechanical and basic keypad lockboxes give no visibility into when, or by whom, the box was accessed.

04 / Weathered

Keypads weather poorly.

Outdoor exposure wears down dials and buttons faster than the rest of the housing — and failure usually means a service call.

Opened by a Smartphone Tap — No Battery Inside the Key Lock Box

The lock uses NFC micro-energy harvesting. When an authorized smartphone is held against the NFC tap area on the front of the key safe, the phone itself supplies the small amount of energy needed to verify access and release the lock.

There is no internal cell to recharge, no batteries to replace, and nothing to fail when the key safe sits unused for months between guests, or through cold weather.

Manage who can open it, and see every open event.

Every authorized user is added through the NFC app. The same app handles authorization and access records for both individual hosts and multi-property managers.

Authorization management

  • Add or remove authorized users in seconds

  • Time-bound access for stays, visits, or service windows

  • Revoke access instantly when a guest checks out

  • No PIN codes to share, rotate, or recover

Unlock records

  • Full log of every open event, by user and timestamp

  • Accountability across cleaners, agents, and maintenance

  • A reliable record for handovers and insurance follow-up

How It Works

From tap to open in seconds.

Step 01

Authorize the user
Owner adds an authorized user via the app — one-time, scheduled, or time-bound.

Step 02

Open the app
User opens the NFC app on the authorized phone.

Step 03

Hold to the key safe
Phone is held against the NFC tap area on the front of the lock.

Step 04

NFC powers + verifies
Phone supplies energy; the lock reads the authorization token.

Step 05

Door releases
Retrieve or return the keys, fobs, or access cards inside.

Step 06

Logged automatically
The open event is recorded against that user, with timestamp.

Where the NFC Smart Key Safe Fits

Built for any situation where keys, fobs, or access cards need to change hands without meeting in person — and where the owner still wants visibility into who is opening the box. With a 180 × 220 mm front face and 65 mm depth, the internal space is sized for multiple keys, fobs, and cards rather than a single key handover.

Short-term rentals

Self check-in for Airbnb and vacation rentals without sharing codes or coordinating arrival times.

Property management

One access point for cleaners, maintenance, and inspectors across multiple units in a portfolio.

Real estate lockbox

Agent and buyer access for showings, with logged entry records for accountability.

Family & shared homes

Keyless backup access for family members, roommates, and trusted visitors — no spare keys to lose.

Service personnel

Time-bound entry for dog walkers, cleaners, deliveries, and contractors.

Emergency & spare

A secure outdoor location for backup house, car, gate, and garage keys, with a clear record of any use.

Built by a Lock Maker,
Not a Tech Startup

Since 2002, KENRONE has built mechanical, electronic, and now battery-free NFC locks for commercial projects in 100+ countries. We don't just assemble locks — we engineer them, from circuit board to cam mechanism, all under one roof.

KENRONE Company.webp

From mechanical locks in 2002 to NFC battery-free cam locks today — we've evolved with every shift in the industry.

23 Years in Locking

We build the complete NFC ecosystem — from battery-free hardware to cloud management — engineered to work together.

Systems, Not Just Locks

Complete control from circuit design to final QC — no third-party assembly, no surprise quality drift.

Fully In-House Manufacturing

Tested in the conditions our locks will actually face — extreme temperatures, heavy use, outdoor exposure, contractor rotation.

Built for the Field, Not the Lab

A finished application of our in-house NFC lock platform

This key safe is built on the same NFC passive lock platform behind our padlocks, cabinet locks, cam locks, and the NFC smart bike cable lock — designed and manufactured in-house, and adapted to the key safe form.

If you are evaluating NFC unlocking for a custom key safe, locker, or access product of your own, this page is also a working reference for what the technology can do in a finished consumer product.
